Born and raised in the Edmonton, Alberta region, Dr. Townshend settled in London, Ontario after graduating with highest distinction from the Michigan College of Optometry in 1993. After becoming a partner in the practice in 1997, she went on to obtain her Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) – a distinction afforded to less than 5% of optometrists. She has completed a series of National Board Examinations inclusive of the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease (TMOD) and is an active member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) and the Comprehensive Eye Care Section of the American Academy of Optometry.
With a strong interest in ocular disease, dry eye/ocular surface disorders and myopia progression, Dr. Townshend has focused her practice on comprehensive family eye care and the London Institute for Dry Eye (LIDE) located within the Optometrists on Colborne clinic.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Townshend enjoys skiing, gardening, travel and hiking. Married to Todd and mom to Tyne, Seth and Samuel, you are likely to bump into her in the London community at an arena watching hockey, ringette or maybe a London Knights game.
